Where can I learn the basics?
Which consent DMOs matter most?
Data 360 models consent across more than a dozen privacy DMOs. The ones most often used are Party Consent, Contact Point Consent, Engagement Channel Type Consent, Communication Subscription Consent, and Authorization Form Consent. Communication Subscription Consent is the system of record for Marketing Cloud Next.
Where are consent effective dates stored?
On the consent DMOs. Contact Point Consent and Authorization Form Consent have Effective From Date, Effective To Date, and Consent Captured Date Time. Effective To Date marks when a consent form stops being in effect. Withdrawal is recorded as a change in Consent Status, so confirm how your implementation sets this. Privacy Consent Log is a separate event-style record of consent activity.
How do you separate transactional and commercial email consent?
Data 360 has no transactional/commercial flag. In Marketing Cloud Next, every promotional email must tie to a Communication Subscription, and an opt-in record must exist for that subscription, contact point, and channel type (Trailhead). Transactional email follows different rules, but I haven't any documentation about it, so confirm the exact behavior in your org. Channel is determined by Engagement Channel Type and the contact point.
How do cookie consent banners such as OneTrust connect to Data 360?
There appear to be no Salesforce-published OneTrust connector for Data 360 or Marketing Cloud Next. However, in general, cookie consent is ingested into Data 360 through the Interactions SDK.
Where does send-time consent live in Marketing Cloud Next, and what updates it?
Communication Subscription Consent is the system of record. Marketing Cloud Next checks a consent cache at send time, and only the Create Consent flow element reliably refreshes it. Batch Data Transforms, data streams, and the legacy MessagingConsent actions update the DMO but not the cache, so those changes may not apply at send time. Data Cloud Record-Triggered flows use Create Consent; Automation Event and On-Demand flows use Consent Request (Trailhead). A OneTrust-to-Data 360 feed for Marketing Cloud Next should therefore run through a flow that calls Create Consent.
How is consent history kept?
Communication Subscription Consent holds current state only. Cookie consent history is in Privacy Consent Log rows.
